Description
I had always dreamed of taking a photograph of the Eiffel Tower at sunset, with the streetlights and the city skyline in the foreground. And now, standing on the Alexander III Bridge, I was finally going to have the opportunity of making that dream a reality.
As I set up my camera, I couldn't help but take in the sheer beauty of my surroundings. The renowned bridge itself was a work of art, with ornate sculptures and stunning golden accents. The art nouveau style sreet lights created a fascinating foreground, but what really took my breath away was the view of this most famous of French landmarks stretching out to the vibrant skies in the distance.
The sun was just beginning to dip below the horizon, casting a warm pink and orange glow over everything in sight. The Eiffel Tower was silhouetted against the sky, a magnificent sight that seemed the perfect subject and the perfect time to capture what would be a really special photo.
I was just about to begin a Mediterranean Cruise with Anne, my bride of 40 years, and we were celebrating our fortieth anniversary with a cruise on board the luxurious Crystal Cruises ship. This was our final night of three pre-cruise night prior to boarding our ship. our anniversary vacation was already a dream come true, and now I was adding to the memories with this stunning photograph.
We reached the bridge at the end of a very long day of sightseeing, and although are legs were worn out from walking, and we were starting to feel some pressure to get back to our hotel, I did not want to rush the shot. I adjusted the settings on my Nikon D90, taking care to get everything just right. I was trying for maximum depth of field to keep the foreground , midground, and background all in focus. This was going to be the shot of a lifetime, and I wasn't going to settle for anything less than my very best effort.
As I snapped away, taking about two dozen shots, while Anne looked on patiently, I felt a sense of excitement building inside me. The rush of adrenaline that came with the perfect shot was exhilarating. I knew that this was a moment I would never forget, and I was excited to think of getting home, exporting these photos to Lightroom on my computer, and re-creating the scene for my facebook photography friends—as accurately as possible, so that they could share in my sense of awe at the sight before me.
As the sun finally disappeared below the horizon, I packed up my camera and turned to take in the view one last time. The sunset had already begun to fade, and the Eiffel Tower would soon stand proudly against the black night sky, its lights twinkling in the darkness. The pressure now gone, I felt a smile brighten my face, knowing that I had captured something truly magical on that bridge in Paris.
I turned to Anne who was standing beside me, and took her hand, giving it a squeeze, and we shared a smile. I knew that this was a moment that we would always remember as we continued our incredible journey in Europe and in our lives together.
