Our 12 days in Israel were absolutely phenomenal. Our visit to the Holy Land was an extraordinary trip--one which challenged my intellect, my assumptions, and my emotions. It was an experience that reached into our hearts and souls on innumerable occasions. We emerged with a new understanding of ourselves, how we relate to our world, to others, to religion, and to God. On what other trip can you visit the holy city of Jerusalem, the revered Western Wall, Bethlehem, the Israel Museum, Yad Vashem (Israeli Holocaust Museum), Nazareth, the Shrine and Gardens of the Baha'i faith, the Temple Mount, the Grotto of the Nativity, the Dome of the Rock, the fortress of Masada, the Church of the Nativity, the Via Dolorosa, the Milk Grotto, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher? Where else can you enjoy Shabbat dinner with an Israeli family; ride camels through the pink city of Petra; sail on the Sea of Galilee; visit Roman ruins in Akka and Caesarea; explore the oldest port city in the world--4,000 year old Jaffa; view the Dead Sea Scrolls, tour the White City of Tel Aviv and visit its Mediterranean beaches; tour an Israeli kibbutz; view the Tower of David Sound and Light Show, float in the Dead Sea; participate in a panel discussion with a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim, and a Baha'i; retrace the steps that Jesus took on the Via Dolorosa, stand in the same spot on Mount Nebo where Moses looked out upon the Promised Land, put on a yamulke and tefillin and pray at the Western Wall? As we walked through the streets and visited famous Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and Baha'i shrines, we spoke comfortably to conservative and ultra-orthodox Jews, to Christian pilgrims, to Muslims, and to Baha'is. Each person we conversed with was warm, kind, and helpful.
